Capacity Building for the LAC Southern Cone Industrial Sector: “Leveraging the Italian Private Sector and Business Development Expertise”
On Friday April 23 2004 the first course (*) of the GDLN-LAC Program: Capacity Building for the LAC Southern Cone Industrial Sector: “Leveraging the Italian Private Sector and Business Development Expertise” took place.

The focus of this GDLN-LAC Project is to share the Italian “Private Sector and Business Development Expertise” with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay’s entrepreneurs. Through the network, the course connected entrepreneurs from four Argentinean provinces (Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Santa Fe, and Santa Cruz), Paraguay (Asuncion) and Uruguay (Montevideo). The courses were broadcast from Italy’s GDLN - Distance Learning Center in Milan.

The Program’s main objectives are: (i) the “reindustrialization” of the Private Sector in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay; (ii) improving Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay international competitiveness; (iii) implementation of “Training the Trainer” methodology; and (iv) implementation of “Best Business” management practices in the local level enterprises.

This course is being offered as a partnership which brings together the collective experience and expertise of the following partners:

PROMOS: Italian Special Agency of the Milan Chamber of Commerce for the development of international activities

GDLN-LAC: Global Development Learning Network - Latin America & the Caribbean Region of the World Bank

BANCO DE LA NACION: National Public Bank of Argentina

CEPAE: Paraguay’s Agency dedicated to creating business development opportunities for SME on a national level

DINAPYME: Uruguay’s Association dedicated to the promotion of entrepreneurial ship and development of SMEs.

The introduction to the session also counted with the congratulatory words of Daniela Gressani, Director of Strategy and Operation for the World Bank - Latin America and the Caribbean Region, who has concluded the first course by welcoming all the participants to the Program and stated, “the Bank is confident that this Program represent the beginning of a long lasting collaboration through which knowledge - transfer and knowledge - exchange will be facilitated on an ongoing basis in the SME sector”.


Following this first session future sessions will take place on the following dates: April 30; May 7-14; June 11-18-25; July 2.
