April
20, 2004 - Mexico City, Mexico.- The Ministry of Health
of Mexico, through its Information Technology Division
organized the international conference in memory of Dr.
Juan Luis Londoño, "Innovations
in Health Financing."
The conference opened with the words of the President
of Mexico, Vicente Fox, who praised the work of Dr.
Juan Luis Londoño, Colombia's ex-Minister
of Social Protection, as a distinguished social reformer.
The conference highlighted Colombia's reform process,
marked by the work of Dr. Juan Luis Londoño as
part of the 1993 "Law 100", as is the 20003
Mexican reform of the General Health Law that resulted
in the creation of the System in Social Protection for
Health.
In order to contribute to this process, the Ministry
of Health of Mexico organized the conference to
promote the sharing of best practices among countries
with interest in resolving the challenges of equitable
and sustainable financing of health systems.
The conference has an international dimension thanks
to a live broadcast and an interactive videoconference
connection established in coordination with GDLN. Conference
participants in Colombia and Ecuador were able to benefit
from hearing the technical presentations and had the
opportunity to present comments and questions to the
international panelists.
