GDLN Dominican Republic in Partnership with National Universities Launch National Network (REDAD)
May 11, 2004 - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- The Dominican Republic GDLN center, (the National Institute of Public Administration's Distance Education Center), launched its national network (REDAD) as a partnership with national universities. REDAD is a superior education and learning project, conformed by the National Institute of Public Administration and its Distance Education Center, the Catholic University of Santo Domingo (UCSD), Santiago Technological University (UTESA), Central University of the East (UCE), Dominican American University (UNICDA), Superior Institution of Teacher Training Salome Ureña, and the Pedro Henriquez Ureña National University (UNPHU).

REDAD has as its objective to create a national network of organizations for content development related to different areas of development, through the highest level of technology and e-learning in the Dominican Republic, which will reach all of the country's geographic points. By way of REDAD, a virtual education network with be established with a high-level of standards on academic quality, technology, and national and international accreditation. REDAD will promote the development of distance education through the use of new information and communication technologies, for the learning of Dominicans in the country and abroad.

The launch of REDAD was done at a national and regional level thanks to the technology which made possible this distance celebration. From the Dominican Republic, representatives of national universities and educational institutions participated from the GDLN studio. The launch also counted with the participation of David Gray, Latin America and Caribbean Regional Coordinator for GDLN, who from Washington DC, congratulated the Dominican initiative in establishing a partnership that can contribute to the development of a national, regional and global knowledge community.

The directors of the GDLN centers in Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Peru also participated in the REDAD launch and shared their diverse experiences on working as a network at a regional, national, and sector level. The launch concluded with the cutting of the ceremonial red ribbon in Santo Domingo by the representatives of the REDAD partner institutions which received local and virtual applauses.
